Snapchat to bring in the launch of its new ‘Here For You’ mental health resource centre. The move is initiated as a response to rising angst around COVID-19 pandemic.
The instant photo and video sharing app announced that ‘Here For You’ will provide in-app support to Snapchatters who may have been experiencing a mental health or emotional crisis. During its original announcement of the tool, Snapchat would be rolling out ‘in the coming months’, but since the COVID-19 outbreak, the feature will be out sooner to boost assistance.
“In light of anxiety and panic that people in the world are experiencing due to coronavirus, we have sped up the launch of ‘Here For You’ and making sure that the feature will be available to users worldwide. It will have a section dedicated to coronavirus news globally, where updates from the World Health Organisation, the CDC, Crisis Text Line, NHS, and other partners will be constantly shown to overcome the anxiety specifically related to coronavirus. The expected time to roll out the feature will be next week.”
In addition to COVID-19 specific content, Snapchat will partner with other Non-Profit Organisation, like- Active Minds, because of you, Seize the Awkward, Young Minds, etc to provide elements designed to target mental health concerns.
